Flows and networks
Diagrams that show where quantities come from and go to.
The idea
Flow charts follow quantities as they move between stages or entities. The width of each band is the amount, so the reader sees at a glance where most of it goes and where it is lost. Use them when the path matters as much as the totals at either end.
Where to use it
- Budgets and energy from source to use
- Customer journeys and conversion funnels
- Migration and trade between places
- Who is connected to whom, and how strongly
