Audio Player Maker

Turn a spreadsheet of audio links into a playlist readers can play right on your page. Upload your tracks and publish an embeddable audio list. It's free.

What is a Audio Player?

An audio player template turns each row of a spreadsheet into one playable track: a play button, a title, an optional description, a progress bar and a time readout. The rows can be filtered by category, and only one track plays at a time. It is a playlist for a web page rather than a chart, built for the cases where the data is a set of recordings: podcast episodes, music samples, interview clips, language lessons or narrated stories. Because it is driven by a sheet, adding a track means adding a row.

When to use a Audio Player

  • You have a set of clips to share

Episodes, samples, pronunciations, field recordings. A list with play buttons beats ten separate file links in a paragraph.

  • Listeners should choose one clip at a time

Only one track plays at once, so starting another stops the first. That is the behaviour people expect from a playlist.

  • The tracks fall into groups

A category column adds filter buttons or a dropdown, and can tint the play buttons by category.

  • You want to update it from a sheet

Connect a Google Sheet and new tracks appear without re-embedding anything.

When not to use a Audio Player

  • You need a waveform

This is a track list, not a waveform visualiser or an audio editor.

  • Your audio is not already hosted

Each row needs a direct link to an MP3, OGG or WAV file. PlotSet does not host the audio for you.

  • You need autoplay

Browsers block audio until a visitor interacts with the page, so no embed can promise autoplay.

  • You want to compare numbers

If the point is data rather than listening, a table or a chart will serve better.

The parts of a Audio Player

Play button
Starts and pauses one track. Its colour and size are adjustable, and it can sit left or right of the text.
Title and description
The track heading and an optional line beneath it. Long text can be truncated and shown in full on hover.
Progress bar
Shows how far playback has gone and lets listeners click to seek.
Time readout
Elapsed and total duration for the track.
Filter control
Pill buttons, a dropdown or a slider that narrow the list to one category.
Pager
Splits long lists into pages sized to fit the embed.

Common Audio Player mistakes

Linking to a web page instead of a file

The link must point straight at the audio file. A link to a page that contains a player will not play.

Cramming in too many tracks

Long lists are paginated. If everything matters, increase the embed height or split into categories.

Expecting autoplay

Browsers require a click first. Design the page so a visitor knows to press play.

Hosting files that block streaming

Some hosts forbid direct linking. Test each link in a browser tab before publishing.
