Mentions climb from 12.4% in Q1 2023 to 41.8% by Q4, and an animated timeline bar chart is the simplest way to show that single number changing step by step, without asking the viewer to read a table. PlotSet's Chrono Bar template takes one measure (mentions, revenue, signups, whatever you're tracking) and plays it as a single bar that grows or shrinks as it moves along your timeline, pausing briefly at each step so the value has a moment to register before the next transition starts.
What makes it different from a bar chart race is that there's only ever one bar on screen. A race needs several competing entities to be worth watching; Chrono Bar is built for when you've got exactly one thing and want its trajectory to read clearly, without competitors crowding the frame. Q1 to Q4, week 1 to week 12, sprint to sprint: the bar's height at each stop tells the whole story.
It also doesn't require real dates. The key column takes plain text labels, so 'Sprint 14' or 'Launch week' works just as well as a calendar date. That's the template to reach for when your timeline is sequential but not chronological in the strict sense: named phases, releases, or campaign stages rather than dated rows.

Label
Any text label such as "Q1 2023" or "Week 12". Exactly one value column follows it.
The sheet has exactly two columns. The first is the label column: plain text, one entry per time step, in the order you want them to play ('Q1 2023', 'Week 12', 'Sprint 14'). It doesn't need to be a real date; PlotSet just steps through the rows top to bottom, so make sure they're already in the order you want animated.
The second column is the single measure that becomes the bar's height at each step: a percentage, a count, a dollar figure, anything numeric. Five to twelve rows is the sweet spot: enough steps for the motion to feel like a genuine trend, not so many that each pause gets rushed. If your raw data has more rows than that, aggregate it (daily into weekly, weekly into monthly) before uploading rather than letting the render feel hurried.
