An animated map video is a guided flight over a world map instead of one static image you have to scan yourself. PlotSet's Map Tour template takes a sheet of countries and values and turns it into a camera that visits each one in the order your rows are in: zooming down, tracing the country's border, holding on its value, then lifting off toward the next stop.
That's the real difference from a static choropleth. A shaded map of CO2 emissions by country puts all 190-odd countries on screen at once, and the reader has to hunt for which shade of red means what. A map tour tells it as a sequence instead: China, then the United States, then India, each one framed on its own with its number right there, so the comparison happens one country at a time instead of all at once.
It's built for a short list, not an atlas. Ten to twenty stops is the range where the flight still feels purposeful rather than a slideshow: enough countries to build a ranking or a story, not so many the video runs past a minute and people stop watching.

Country
One country per row. Names or ISO codes both work, so "USA", "US" and "United States" all match.
The key column is Country: one country per row, matched by name or ISO code, so "United States", "USA" and "US" all resolve to the same border. Every other column in your sheet becomes a value shown on that country's stop; the sample above has one, CO2 emissions, but you can add a second column if you want two numbers displayed side by side on each card.
Row order is flight order, not time order: this template doesn't animate a country's value changing across years, it visits each row once in sequence. Ten to twenty countries makes for a render that holds attention; if your sheet has fifty rows, sort by value and trim it to the ones that actually carry the story before you render.

Biggest CO2 emitters, largest economies by GDP, most medals at the last Olympics. A short ordered list of countries is exactly what a flight-path video is built to narrate, one stop at a time.
Geography that's part of the story
When where a country sits actually matters, trade routes, a tour itinerary, disaster response by region, tracing the border on a real map does work a bar chart can't, because the shape and location are the point.
Social and presentation content
A 20-40 second flyover with a clean title card per country works as a LinkedIn or Instagram post, a conference-talk cutaway, or an embed in a blog post that would otherwise just show a table.
One value per country, clearly labeled

If the point is a global pattern, which hemisphere is warmer, which continent trends higher, a static shaded map beats a video, because the reader can scan everything at once instead of waiting for each stop to arrive.
Values changing over time per country
Map Tour visits countries in row order, it doesn't animate one country's value across years. For a country's trend over time, a line chart or bar chart race fits better.
Dozens of countries with no natural ranking
Past twenty or so stops the flight starts to feel like it's just cycling through a list rather than telling you anything. Cut to your top N, or switch to a static map if you genuinely need all of them visible together.
